Review:

Disclaimer: I received this book from the author in exchange for a review.

An enjoyable Highlander romance that had me wanted to smack the characters in one moment and cheer for them the next.

I must admit to not enjoying this book that much at the beginning. It felt like it was trying too hard to be a Highlander romance. It felt terribly cookie cutter like it was trying to hit a number of romance conventions. Marcus had an overdone instant attraction to her. Initially, I really disliked the romance aka creepy pursuit of Marcus towards Elise. I know what time period the book was set in, but the body's response is not consent. Despite his initial overwhelming desire, Marcus did show that he was coming to care for Elise although he still had boundary issues.

I liked Elise. She was strong, competent, and managed to escape a number of bad situations. One thing that I found was odd that she seemed to be quite strong for a woman, but seemed very weak other times. I did like how much she fought against Marcus' advances.

The background for this story did add an element of danger although sometimes it felt too overblown, especially with such a bad baddie. I did like how everything turned out though. Elise's response to what happened to her was a realistic one and I really liked how Marcus knew he had to work hard to help her.

Recommendation: I would recommend this book to fans of Highlander romance and romance with strong heroines.

  1. Hi! Thanks for this chance! I enjoyed other books from Tarah Scott and I love a good Highlander story! Great review, I like the fact that Marcus is chasing Elise and that she also fought his advance! I like strong female character!

    1. I hope you win!! Elise is certainly a strong character and certainly not a pushover.
