Dastardly Blog Tour: Review and Giveaway

Dastardly Bastard by Edward Lorn

Disclaimer: I recieved this book from the author in exchange for a review.

Summary: When war photographer Mark Simmons is sent to do a promo on Waverly Chasm, he assumes it’s a puff piece, a waste of his talents. Widow Marsha Lake brings her son, Lyle, to help him heal after his father’s death. Donald Adams, aka H.R. Chatmon, joins the tour to get away from a sticky situation. Justine McCarthy consents to the hike to placate her boyfriend, Trevor. For Jaleel Warner, the tour guide, walking the chasm is just part of his job. Each of these people must face their darkest memories in order to discover and defeat the secret buried in Waverly Chasm.

Review: An incredible novel that is liberal with its horror, but also just as liberal with its hope.

Lorn certainly has a way with words and a way with characters. Each character had their own distinct personality, distinct wants, distinct needs, and distinct fears. He juggled the characters with ease. I was curious how he was going to get all the characters together, but he did it in a logical way that wasn't contrived. The action in this book started early and didn't stop until near the end. I found myself eager to keep reading, to see what was going to happen next and that doesn't always happen to me that often.

There were many moments in this book that made me cringe or made my heart race. The horror in this book was so well done. The action constantly builds throughout the story and bits of information are tantalizingly released as the book progressed. I love this book's message about memories and how one should focus on the good. Focusing on the bad will only drain you. My only real complaint is how quickly everything wrapped up. It was a disappointment since there was such a buildup to that point.
